Labour in Leeds

Residents of two sheltered housing complexes in Pudsey can sleep more safely thanks to help from their local Labour Councillors. Residents of New Street Grove have been the victims of anti-social behaviour for some time and recently contacted Councillors Josie Jarosz, Richard Lewis and Mick Coulson to see if they could help bring an end to their nightmare.  

They immediately raised the matter with the local housing office, and requested that action be taken to end the residents’ despair. Metal fencing has now been erected around the site, giving the people of New Street Grove the security and peace of mind they so desperately craved.  

Meanwhile, residents of Claremont Grove can also rest easy, thanks to new fencing at their complex. They recently funded their own CCTV system, and consequently the Councillors were eager to do all they could to ensure the complex was as secure as possible. Funding has now been secured for new perimeter fencing, as well as for a new communal kitchen area in the complex.   

Councillor Josie Jarosz (Pudsey) said: “I am really pleased that my ward colleagues and I have managed to help these people to feel more secure in their own homes. Everyone has a right to feel safe at home and the residents of New Street Grove have been denied this right for too long. Hopefully this new fence will give them the security they deserve. The residents of Claremont Grove did a fantastic job in funding their own CCTV system and it is only right that we do our part to help. I am delighted that we have convinced the council to fund the fencing to make their complex even more secure.  Claremont Grove is a strong, close knit community and I am sure that their new communal kitchen will only strengthen this bond. It’s a fantastic facility for the people living there and I am delighted that we have been able to help provide it.”
