£1,000 a day job

The Tory / LibDem coalition running Leeds City Council look set to make a temporary appointment for the Director of Children's services that could cost the tax payer £1,000 a day.

The appointment, being made through an agency, is for the head of the troubled children's services department that has recently by heavily criticised by independent inspectors.

Councillor Lisa MulherinCouncillor Lisa Mulherin, Labour's children's services spokeswoman, said:

"At £1,000 a day of taxpayers' money, we are in for a very expensive burden as Ms Brazil will need to stay until a suitable, permanent replacement is found.

"Al
l this expense at a time when funds should be directed towards recruiting more front line social workers to safeguard the children of Leeds."

Promoted by Ray Collins, General Secretary, the Labour Party, on behalf of the Labour Party, both at 39 Victoria Street, London, SW1H 0HA.
