Sonia previously worked at Eastleigh Sheltered Housing until 1989 where she then moved on to Westerton Walk. Many social celebrations have taken place over the past week to celebrate the retirement of Sonia, ending with a farewell party held by the residents to show their appreciation for all her help over the years.

local residents as they staged a protest to call for a pedestrian
crossing to be built at the corner of Windmill Road and Belle Isle
Road. The
stretch of road is incredibly busy with commuter traffic and the
school run and many people are concerned that there is no safe
place to cross. Many children walk to Windmill Primary School
and South Leeds High School along the road and lots of parents
worry that their children aren’t safe on their way to and from
school. Although the wind did its best to disrupt the demonstration it

installed outside Grimes Dyke Primary School on Stanks Drive,
Whinmoor. Residents first approached local Councillors Pauleen Grahame,
Suzi Armitage and Peter Gruen two and a half years ago to ask for
traffic calming measures on the busy road which is prone to heavy
traffic, especially during rush hour and the school
run. The Councillors in turn approached the

relation of the other major Victorian and Edwardian City parks in
Leeds such as Roundhay and Golden Acre, This has meant that it has
not always received the support it needed in order for it to remain
in anything like its original state. The Council's support for the Lottery bid and the generous

The proposals to develop the site will cost £100,000 and some of the money has already been raised through the Area Committee, which Councillor Gabriel chairs, and one of the football clubs set to benefit from the improvements.
