Plans for a major housing development on an 18-acre Riverside site near Methley have been criticised by local Labour Councillors Keith Wakefield and James Lewis. Property firm Banks Developments revealed last week they have earmarked the site at Station Road as the location for a new residential development.
As of yet, Banks have not said how many homes will be included in the scheme. On hearing news of the plans, Cllr Wakefield has
subsequently voiced his deep concern about the scheme.
Councillor Keith Wakefield (Labour, Kippax & Methley) said: “We are
very unhappy about this proposal. This development would in our opinion add little to the make-up of Methley, which has grown far too fast over the past ten years.
“I know the residents of Methley also have very strong feelings about how important it is that the character and community spirit of the village is not lost through
over-development.
“Therefore I really hope residents take this opportunity to get fully involved and engaged with these proposals, which will be displayed in a public exhibition at the cricket
club on the 19th March from 3pm to 7pm.”
