Beeston in Bloom cleans up at awards

Labour Councilllor and Chair of Beeston in Bloom, Councillor Angela Gabriel had reason to celebrate recently after the green fingered group won the Community Project of the Year award at the annual Community and City Pride Awards that took place last month. The group represented Yorkshire at the national Britain in Bloom competition and were awarded the Silver Gilt award.

They undertook a number of initiatives including litter picking, arranging for the removal of large items of rubbish and even selling drinks cans to a scrap metal merchant. Councillor Gabriel is delighted at the group’s success and is taking the opportunity to encourage more local residents to become involved.

Councillor Angela Gabriel (Beeston & Holbeck) said “I was so pleased that the Beeston in Bloom group won this award, everyone puts in so much hard work and it is nice to see it acknowledged. I really do believe that it is the people that make a community and we are really lucky in Beeston to have such a wonderful group of people who are prepared to go the extra mile to constantly improve the local environment. Beeston in Bloom is a lot of fun and I would like to encourage anyone who is interested to get in touch as we are always on the look out for new volunteers.”
