News that Chapeltown and Harehills are to be the sites of two new Joint Services Centres have been greeted enthusiastically by local Councillors. The Centres are joint projects between Leeds City Council and the Primary Care Trust and as such will house services from both
organisations.
These will include Council Services such as Customer Services, Environmental Health and Leeds Credit Union and various health services including health visitors, community midwives
and district nurses. The projects were approved at this week’s Executive Board meeting, and work will be completed in 2010, local Councillors
Jane Dowson and Arif Hussain believe that the wait will be worth it.
Councillor Jane Dowson (Chapel Allerton) said: “This is good news for the residents
of Chapeltown. My colleagues and I welcome the investment into the area. The fact that people will be able to access different services all under one roof will
be really beneficial to the local community. A host of different organisations have been working for some time on different Chapeltown Road improvement schemes, of which this is
only one part. Things are really buzzing in the area and there is a real sense of optimism for the future.”
Councillor Arif Hussain (Gipton and Harehills) said: “This is news to be welcomed and I
am sure that the new centre will be well used by local residents. I am confident that the time before the centre opens will pass quickly and soon we will be admiring the new
building and the range of services it offers.”
